The 2025 Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR) reached its final leg, Leg 8, on Saturday, August 16th, covering a total distance of 327.83km from Pattaya. Despite the short 69.55km stage (SS), the gap between overall leader Chaiyapol Yotha and the second-place finisher was just 10 minutes and 12 seconds. It was a tense stage, with the potential for positional changes until the very end.
Leader Chaiyapol Yotha experienced cooling system trouble during the transitional section before the start, but was able to start safely thanks to a quick emergency response. He demonstrated a stable performance and secured his first overall victory since 2022.
Katsuhiko Taguchi drove well on the flat dirt, maintaining his 5th place overall. Kazuto Koide also improved one position to finish in 22nd place.
Team Mitsubishi Ralliart achieved their goal of winning the overall championship, with all three cars finishing the race.
This rally proved the combined strength of the drivers, cars and teams. Thank you for all your support.
Comment from Team Mitsubishi Ralliart's #118 driver, Kazuto Koide (22nd overall): "I participated in the rally as a quick support driver amidst the intense pressure of the team's determination to win. However, I ended up retiring on the first day, which I should never have done, and it was a mentally tough rally throughout. It was also extremely painful that I was unable to live up to General Manager Masuoka's expectations. As for the team, Chaiyapong won, and I personally gained valuable experience. I would like to use this as motivation to take on the challenge again next year."
Comment from Katsuhiko Taguchi (5th overall), Team Mitsubishi Ralliart, Car No. 105: "Our ranking is the same as last year, but I think the content of this year was better. We, the crew, have made progress, with less than half the number of course errors and we even achieved the best time for the stage. The car is much better than last year. I think the improved off-road performance and reliability contributed to Chaiyapong's consistent pace. If we can continue to improve the Triton's strengths, I think we can aim for good results next year as well."
Comment from Chaiyapol Yotha (Overall Winner) of Team Mitsubishi Ralliart's #112 car: "It was a tough rally with a lot going on. We got stuck in LEG 5 and had trouble before the start of the final day. But I'm very happy and proud to have won for the first time in two years. Team Mitsubishi Ralliart has great teamwork. Everyone played their role well and prepared a perfect car for us. We'll return next year as the defending champions!"
Hiroshi Masuoka, General Manager of Team Mitsubishi Ralliart, said: "We've competed in the Asia Cross Country Rally four times so far, with two wins, bringing our win rate back up to 50%. For now, I'm relieved. Last year was very disappointing, but everyone on the team has used that as motivation to work hard all year. I'm so happy that all that hard work has finally paid off, and I believe this victory was achieved through the power of teamwork. Winning was all we were thinking about this year, so I'm so happy that my dream has come true. Thank you for your support."
